“NCIS” season 17 is not yet confirmed but since season 16 is getting closer to its conclusion, fans can’t help but ask if the show is returning to continue the stories in the police procedural drama. CBS has yet to decide and the announcement could come within the first quarter of this year.
But to answer if “NCIS” season 17 is coming back, here is what we know: Firstly, the show is still doing very well even more than a decade of being on air. Thus, it is likely to be renewed once the 16th installment ends. CBS President, Kelly Kahl, also believed that it will return because it has millions of viewers around the world.
“It’s pretty simple – viewers everywhere love NCIS. This show speaks to viewers of all ages, in all parts of the country and around the world,” Variety quoted Kelly Kahl as saying,
Moreover, Express noted that the show is one of the most-watched worldwide from 2009 to 2017, beating the likes of “The Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones” so there is no way that CBS will not order new episodes for “NCIS” season 17.
The average audience share of “NCIS” is reportedly 47 million as per Nielsen. It was also listed as the fourth most popular program in America from 2017 to 2018. With this steady figure, “NCIS” season 17 is expected to rake in the same viewership ratings.
Once confirmed, “NCIS” season 17 may offer just 14 episodes and will still be lead by Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Although the actor has been repeatedly rumored to be leaving the show, he is staying because he previously stated that he will stick to the show until the end.
Finally, “NCIS” season 17 is also expected to bring back the other series regulars like Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Nick Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham). The premiere date will be announced later when the show wraps up filming.
