The prospect of an “NCIS” Season 17 should be welcome to news to fans of the series but even with the show being one of the most popular at CBS, there is no guarantee of a renewal. What’s more, there have been rumblings that Mark Harmon (Leroy Gibbs) might not be sticking around for much longer. If he is to depart the show following Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto), it would spell the end of the series, for many.
When fans lost Abby after Pauley Perrette decided to move on with her career, it was a massive blow that hit viewers in their hearts. In many ways, the resident black lipstick-wearing goth gave the show so much compassion and warmth. Her absence is felt event to this day, which is why the potential departure of Mark Harmon is so concerning to fans. Without him, “NCIS” Season 17 might as well not happen.
Now, it’s worth pointing out that due to high great the ratings are for the show’s current season, it would be unthinkable for “NCIS” Season 17 to not be greenlit. On that note, if Gibbs is no longer in the show to provide it with structure due to his huge presence, it would not mean anything. The series has already lost its heart and it will not survive if it lost its soul.
It is fortunate, then that the contract that the actor signed gives way for yet another season. With this being the case, it’s at least assured that if “NCIS” Season 17 were to happen, Mark Harmon would still make an appearance.
As for when “NCIS” Season 17 will come, this is a question that won’t be answered for a very long time. However, once season 16 wraps up and production starts right away, the next season could be hitting the small screen on 2021.
