Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are very familiar names and faces to “NCIS” fans and their reunion for a TV project has been recently confirmed. However, it is for an all-new police procedural series that could potentially air on CBS.
The upcoming series, titled "MIA," could add to the list of cop-inspired TV shows on CBS. This time, “MIA” will focus on detectives from the Miami Police Department. The story is centered on a female undercover agent who has just made the jump to Miami PD as a homicide detective.
Not many details are known about “MIA” but reports have it that the new detective has serious unresolved issues from her last undercover assignment. She will be struggling to face the horrors of her past work while building a healthy work relationship with a “by the book” detective assigned as her partner.
“MIA” is the first project of Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo together ever since they left “NCIS.” Unfortunately, this is in no way a continuation of the Tony-Ziva love story.
TV Line reports that Weatherly and de Pablo are not going to take acting roles in “MIA.” However, the “NCIS” alumni are attached to the potential CBS series as executive producers. They are joined by “Riverdale” producer Shepard Boucher, who will also write the script.
It is impossible for Michael Weatherly to take on a new main cast role since “Bull” is still on the air. The actor will reprise his role as the main protagonist Dr. Jason Bull in season 3 next month.
Before becoming Dr. Bull, Weatherly was known as “Very” Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo on “NCIS,” from seasons 1 to 13. Meanwhile, de Pablo took the role of former Mossad operative (turned NCIS agent) Ziva David from seasons 3 to 11.
Avid fans of “NCIS” (which is due to return for season 16 next month) may recall that Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo’s characters were on-screen lovers. Ziva left the "NCIS" set in season 11 but only died off-screen in season 13, after a CIA agent gone rogue bombed her family home in Tel Aviv. This led to DiNozzo meeting their daughter, who survived the bombing, which eventually became his reason to resign from NCIS a.k.a. his departure from the Mark Harmon-led series in season 13.
