United States First Lady Melania Trump is also the subject of controversy alongside her husband Donald Trump. Her recent ‘snub’ from the Forbes Most Powerful Women list added to the controversy.
Express reports that a panel on Fox & Friends discussed the women who made it onto the Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women list for 2019. The panelists did not take too kindly to the fact that the First Lady did not make the list. They also criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who came in at number one on the list, saying that the list should have people who actually do good things for individuals. Another panelist even added that the list should be genuine, recognizing women who are “genuinely successful and support other women.”
A clip of the program was shared online, and netizens were quick to react, expressing their satisfaction that the First Lady did not make the list while at the same time wondering why Melania should make the list in the first place. Some even pointed out the lack of effectivity the First Lady’s anti-bullying campaign is, along with saying that she has not done anything for the good of the country.
However, while Melania did not make the list, Trump’s eldest daughter and political advisor Ivanka Trump did, placing at number 42. This was also met by criticism by netizens, who also pointed out the legitimacy of the list for also including Ivanka.
But that is not the only thing Melania has been mocked for. Express previously reported that netizens have also criticized for the association of her anti-bullying campaign #BeBest to her husband’s policies. Melania stated that her campaign will encourage children to visit the country’s national parks, and in the same vein, she visited Wyoming to spread the message of BeBest.
But her plans to visit the national parks also came at a time when Donald Trump was criticized about his stance on environmental policies as well as the impeachment inquiries along with his remarks about climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
A month later and an internal report revealed that the wall the president had proposed to build along the border could potentially destroy the monument in Arizona as well as its artifacts. With Melania retweeting the post, she was then faced with criticism from netizens, pointing out the irony of her campaign.
