Fans of CBS's political drama are sure to be excited by the news that Hillary Clinton will be joining the “Madam Secretary” season 5 as a guest star. It turns out, it wasn't Clinton herself who needed convincing to be a guest star in the show's upcoming installment.
Entertainment Weekly reports that it was the former U.S. secretary of state herself who opened up the opportunity. “Madam Secretary's” executive producer Lori McCreary was attending a birthday party for former U.S. President Bill Clinton when, jokingly, Hillary Clinton talked about appearing on the show. The former first lady and U.S. secretary of state, during the Barack Obama administration, initially wanted to guest as a spy in “Madam Secretary” season 5.
Fans will be glad to know that Hillary Clinton will not be the only politician with gravitas who will be joining as a guest in “Madam Secretary” season 5. Former U.S. Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright will be joining Clinton in the same episode.
Madeleine Albright, who holds the distinction of being the first female U.S. secretary of state, under the Bill Clinton administration in the '90s, posted a picture on Twitter of Hillary Clinton, Colin Powell, and herself with Tea Leoni – who plays “Madam Secretary's” primary protagonist, Bess McCord – on set.
It was great to be back on the set of @MadamSecretary with @tealeoni. It is always nice to consult with my successors. The episode will air on #CBS on October 7. pic.twitter.com/68NFcJLMGc

“Madam Secretary” writer Barbara Hall mentions that the practice of current U.S. secretaries of state to ask for advice from their predecessors is a tradition that every politician in the position has experienced at least once during their career. Hall also mentions that Clinton, Powell and Albright's involvement in “Madam Secretary” season 5 will be due to an almost insurmountable challenge that requires McCord to call on the wisdom of the more experienced politicians.
Fans looking forward to knowing the great challenge ahead for Bess McCord, which will entail her to seek wisdom from some of the U.S. Government's most experienced former Secretaries of State, can expect “Madam Secretary” season 5 to air its premiere episode on Oct. 7.
