Lucid Motors has confirmed that its upcoming Gravity SUV will feature dual charging ports, supporting Tesla’s NACS and the CCS standard. This dual compatibility allows drivers to charge at Tesla Superchargers and other networks without adapters, enhancing convenience for EV owners.
Lucid Gravity SUV to Feature Dual Charging Ports, Supporting Both Tesla NACS and CCS Standards
New photos shared over the weekend indicate that the Lucid Gravity SUV will include two distinct charging terminals.
On August 11, X user BLKMDL3, or Zack, reported that Lucid's forthcoming Gravity electric vehicle (EV) will be equipped with two distinct charging ports: one for Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) hardware and the other for the Combined Charging System (CCS) connection. This will enable Gravity EV proprietors to charge at Tesla's Superchargers or the numerous networks that utilize the CCS plug without any adapter.
“We were just told the Lucid gravity will have 2 charge ports as shown here- 1 with NACS and 1 with CCS,”Zack wrote on X.
It is reasonable to assume that the rear charging port will be the NACS plug, as it is located in the exact location on Tesla's vehicles and will shortly be included in Rivian's upcoming R2 line. Still, Lucid has yet to disclose whether or not this is the case, and the automaker has yet to respond to Teslarati's request for comment at the time of writing.
Lucid Gears Up for Gravity SUV Launch with Expanded Production and Advanced Features
The Gravity, Lucid's second formal electric vehicle, is set to launch following the Air sedan. The anticipation for the Gravity SUV, unveiled in November last year, is palpable. With an anticipated range of 440 miles or more, a price of under $80,000, and production set to commence later this year, the excitement is building.
Lucid's commitment to the Gravity SUV's production is evident in its expansion efforts. The company began expanding its production facility in January, adding approximately 3 million square feet. This expansion included a new General Assembly production line, new Quality and Semi-Knock Down (SKD) centers, larger Body and Paint shops, new locations for the Logistics center, and a larger Powertrain facility, all aimed at ensuring a smooth and efficient production process for the Gravity SUV.
Lucid completed the production of its initial pre-production Gravity unit at its AMP-1 factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, after July. This action was preceded by the development of release candidates for the forthcoming electric vehicle.
In a report by Teslarati, Lucid has been actively showcasing the upcoming Gravity SUV in its “Road to Gravity” video series this year. This series provides a comprehensive look at various aspects of the SUV, from its design to the Arizona production facility, keeping the audience well-informed and involved in the journey of this innovative vehicle.
In November, Lucid joined the expanding group of manufacturers committed to utilizing Tesla's NACS hardware. Volkswagen and Stellantis were the final industry holdouts to follow suit in the following weeks.
