“Legion” Season 2 Will Have More Of Shadow King Following Season 1 Finale; Show Creator Says Show To Address Professor X Appearance In The Future If Allowed

“Legion”’s Season 1 finale finally answered some of the biggest questions about the FX show’s plotline. The second to the last episode of the Noah Hawley-created series showed how David Haller (portrayed by Dan Stevens) was heavily influenced by the Shadow King (Jemaine Clement), and explains why he has to have hold of David’s brain as a child. Polygon said the season finale also saw how Shadow King was related to David’s father, who is no other than Professor X, or Professor Charles Xavier.

Hawley, in an interview with Deadline, promised that the fans will show more of Shadow King in Season 2. He said, “I’ve spoken to him (Clement) and he’s excited to come back and certainly that’s what we’re working on doing. So yeah, he will come back and will definitely play a big part in Season 2.”

As for Professor X, there is a question of whether “Legion” will introduce the actual character and not just his story. He explained, “I certainly played very loosely with a lot of the canon as it relates to this character of David Haller, but one of the things I always felt was off-limits was his origin story. I didn’t really feel like there was any way that I could change who his father was, I mean that seemed like a sacrilegious thing to do. So, it was always my intention to acknowledge who his father was. The question was when we would do it and how, obviously, we would do it. So you know I think in this case we’ve nodded to it and obviously as to any child who was adopted, he’s going to want to figure out who his father and mother were and there will be that journey.”

As for the actual production plans for Season 2, Hawley, who is also working on “Fargo”’s next installment, plans to expand the next installment to ten episodes, The Hollywood Reporter said. He added, "I think our goal is to hit the same air date next year," he said. "All that means is a lot more work for me in the immediate future, as I finish up Fargo here. I have nobody to blame but myself!"
