“Last Man Standing” season 7 is preparing to air after the show was revived by Fox. It will return after more than a year of hiatus.
It can be recalled that despite being the network’s second-highest-rating show, ABC did not renew the sitcom for the seventh season. The decision was announced in May 2017 and it totally devastated the fans as well as the show’s actors, including Tim Allen.
Washington Post reported that ABC denied that it canceled “Last Man Standing” season 7 due to the lead star Tim Allen’s political views. Explaining why they made the decision, ABC’s entertainment president, Channing Dungey, said: “The show was canceled for business and scheduling reasons.”
In any case, as “Last Man Standing” season 7 has found its new home, the cast and crew immediately resumed filming and have completed most, if not all, of the episodes for the new season. However, it was revealed that not all of the original cast members are returning to show and there were rumors that Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) daughter, Eve Baxter, is included in the list.
But there is good news. It was said that while the “Short Term 12” actress may not appear in most episodes, she will still be part of “Last Man Standing” season 7. In other words, she will not be a series regular anymore but her role was downgraded to a recurring one.
The reason for this setup is her schedule as she had signed up for other projects while the show was on break. Kaitlyn Dever is set to star in Netflix’s “Unbelievable” as its lead, and showrunner Kevin Abbott relayed that she will be in at least two episodes of “Last Man Standing” season 7.
"She's in the first episode and third episode," executive producer Kevin Abbott told TV Line. "Kaitlyn Dever's marvelous and of course she took other work while we were off... She's currently doing a Netflix show, but they're being really, really accommodating."
“Last Man Standing” season 7 will premiere on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. on FOX.
