Kyochon F&B Co. Ltd. recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Pablo Air, a software-based drone company in South Korea. They agreed to team up to develop and commercialize smart delivery services.
Kyochon F&B and Pablo Air will work on developing automated delivery services using drones. The Korean fried chicken chain announced its new partnership agreement with the said startup company on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
According to The Korea Economic Daily, through the cooperation, Kyochon F&B is aiming to put up a system for developing and cooperating on a drone-based automated logistics delivery service. The company also plans to work further with Pablo Air for other joint business ventures.
The leading fried chicken brand is already operating a drone delivery service at one of its branches in Gyeonggi Province. Its Cheongpyeong store is also delivering orders to some resort establishments around Gapyeong.
It was in December 2022 when Kyochon started testing its drone delivery service with Pablo Air. The process covers everything - from ordering to delivery of food. The test was successful after the drone completed a 7-kilometer non-visual line-of-sight flight in a pre-set route.
"The distance between our store and some resorts is too far, especially during peak seasons when there are many vehicles traveling on the road, making delivery difficult or time-consuming in many areas," the owner of Kyochon Chicken store in Cheongpyeong, Lim Sumi, said in a statement. "Through drone delivery, more customers will be able to enjoy our fried chicken."
Meanwhile, through the agreement, Kyochon will work with Pablo Air to build a cooperative system for drone deliveries. The fried chicken brand will then take the lead in commercializing this type of service that aims to send orders faster and more efficiently. Kyochon hopes that with its smart delivery system, it will be able to contribute to the development of the restaurant sector in the future.
Chosun News quoted a source from Kyochon F&B as saying, "Based on the latest agreement, we plan to build a strategic network for the commercialization of drone delivery with this agreement as an opportunity."
