‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ actor Colin Firth teased that he would reappear as Harry Hart in director Matthew Vaughn’s “unconventional” and “extraordinary” sequel. However, he remained vague on details.
During an interview with Collider, Firth teased that he would be reprising his role as Harry Hart a.k.a. Galahad in some capacity. His character, who was Eggsy’s mentor, was supposedly killed in the first film by the main antagonist Richmond Valentine portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson.
When asked about his return, Firth said, “Well, it’s still my duty to be cryptic about that, so forgive me in being creative in how I dodge that question. It’s no secret that I’m involved, somewhere and somehow. From what I’ve been able to gather, it’s not going to feel like a conventional sequel. It’s going to be something that feels very much its own thing. I’m very optimistic about it.”
He continued, ‘I can’t give too much away about in what capacity I’m back. A lot of people have speculated and a lot of people have come to the wrong conclusions about it. I want to keep the surprise alive, a little longer. I think they’re going to be surprised again.”
Firth’s return to the popular action-comedy film series was first hinted at by a poster that contained the words “Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” It also showed Harry’s trademark tortoiseshell glasses.
On another interview with Cinema Blend, Firth was asked about the atmosphere of the second film compared to the first blockbuster hit. The 55-year old English actor replied, “I'm going to do everything I can to creatively deflect your question. It's no secret that I have some involvement with it, but I think it would be a pity to get too specific about what that is.”
He continued, “I can tell you, yes, I've been on the set, and there is an extraordinary atmosphere where I think nothing is going to be obvious to anybody. I think Matthew Vaughn's outrageousness and the way he likes to subvert people's expectations, it's very, very much alive. This is not a stretching out of the stuff from the first movie. It's going to be a complete and utter... I'm optimistic that it's going to be extraordinary, and utterly its own thing.”
Although plot details remain scarce as of the present, Vaughn’s follow-up will find Eggsy and Merlin heading to the United States to join forces with the American counterparts Statesman when the Kingsman headquarters comes under attack.
‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ is an action-spy and comedy film directed by Matthew Vaughn. It is the sequel to Vaughn’s 2015 film ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’, which received positive reviews and became a financial success after $414.35 million worldwide on a budget of $81 million. The first film was considered Vaughn’s most commercially successful work to date.
The sequel will star Taron Egerton, Pedro Pascal, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, and Vinnie Jones. It is produced by Marv Films, TSG Entertainment, and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. It is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017.
