A new trailer for Marvel’s “Iron Fist” debuted online, to the delight of fans and people who are anticipating for Netflix’s upcoming series. The Verge observed that the next Marvel superhero, Danny Rand (played by Finn Jones), appears to be having a rough time with his superpowers.
WIRED shared a synopsis for the upcoming superhero series, which is as follows, “Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns to New York City, minus socks and shoes, to reclaim his father’s company and beat up bad guys. He’s been away for 15 years, during which time everyone thought he was dead but he was actually learning martial arts. Now he’s returned and wants to eradicate the criminal syndicate that’s infiltrated Rand Enterprises.”
The Los Angeles Times said Jones’ casting had been a problem to fans, considering the fact that the original comics character, although white, could have been Asian or Asian American. Fans are purportedly tired of reading or watching Caucasian characters discovering powers through Asian-based stereotypical journeys to the east. Finn has since responded to the fans’ concerns about the casting.
“”Iron Fist”’s comic book origin has little to do with beating an oppressive enemy, but it has much to do with him besting other students of Asian descent at martial arts, causing him to be regarded with suspicion as the perennial outsider. While his outsider narrative is essential, his identity as a blue-eyed, blonde-haired white man is not,” Hoai Tran-Bui for USA Today wrote.
“Iron Fist” debuts on Netflix on March 17.
