Tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated into the region's most intense conflict in decades, with mutual missile strikes killing hundreds and damaging key infrastructure. On Thursday, Iranian missiles hit a hospital in southern Israel, while Israeli forces targeted areas across Iran, including near the Khondab nuclear facility. Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba sustained damage, and multiple buildings in Tel Aviv were struck, injuring dozens and leaving some trapped.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed it was targeting Israeli military and intelligence centers, while Israel said its attacks aimed to cripple Iran's nuclear capabilities and top military leadership. The conflict has already claimed at least 24 Israeli civilian lives and over 224 Iranian deaths, with unconfirmed reports placing the toll as high as 639 in Iran.
U.S. President Donald Trump has not confirmed whether the U.S. will join the Israeli strikes, stating, "I may do it. I may not do it." He later said Iran had expressed interest in diplomatic talks, though he dismissed it as "a little late." Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei warned of “irreparable damage” if the U.S. intervenes militarily.
The International Atomic Energy Agency recently confirmed Iran breached its non-proliferation obligations for the first time in 20 years. As the threat of a broader regional war looms, European leaders plan urgent nuclear negotiations with Iran.
Global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, are calling for restraint and diplomacy. Meanwhile, Trump’s base is divided over potential U.S. military involvement, with Senate Democrats urging him to seek Congressional authorization before escalating further.
The conflict has sparked widespread fear and evacuations in both countries, marking a dangerous shift from proxy tensions to direct confrontation in the Middle East.
