“Hawaii Five-0” season 9’s pilot episode will feature a remake of the show’s very first episode which aired in 1968. The production team decided to film a new version of “Cocoon” as a way to pay homage and celebrate the series’ 50th anniversary.
The golden anniversary of the popular TV franchise is happening on Sept. 20 and since this is also the month when “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 is coming back, the remake of “Cocoon” was made even more special and meaningful. Since Leonard Freeman wrote the original story, showrunner Peter M. Lenkov is sharing the writing credits with him, TV Line reported.
Now, the producers want to make a really great episode for the special pilot so they are exerting extra effort to make it on par with the original. So, how did they do it?
Firstly, they enlisted Mark Dacascos to reprise his role as Wo Fat, Steve McGarrett's (Alex O’Loughlin) most villainous foe so far. And as cited by EconoTimes, Rochelle Aytes was also added to the cast of “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 as the other villain. She will be Greer, a dangerous and untrustworthy CIA operative.
They will also stick to the original plot as much as possible. In fact, the new version of “Cocoon” will still show the memorable scene where McGarrett puts his life in danger when he participates in a risky mission where he allows himself to be captured by the bad guys.
Once caught, he is tortured by being placed in a sensory deprivation tank that is known as Wo Fat’s “cocoon.” It has yet to be seen how faithful the retelling will be when “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 airs.
Meanwhile, TV Series Finale was able to obtain some behind-the-scenes photos of the “Hawaii Five-0” season 9 pilot episode. Check it out for a glimpse of what is ahead when the series premieres on Sept. 28 on CBS Network.
