‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 14, titled “Mad City: The Gentle Art of Making Enemies,” is set to feature Jerome as he continues to terrorize the city and threaten Bruce’s life after being brought back from the dead. Meanwhile, Nygma and Penguin will get into a confrontation.
The synopsis for “Mad City: The Gentle Art of Making Enemies” posted on TV Guide reads, “Bruce (David Mazouz) and Alfred's (Sean Pertwee) safety is compromised by Jerome (Cameron Monaghan), who's on the loose;
Gordon's (Benjamin McKenzie) uncle Frank (James Remar) visits him; and Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) confront their issues face-to-face.”
The promo for episode 14 hinted at an imminent confrontation between young master Bruce Wayne and the newly resurrected Jerome, who is looking more and more like the iconic Joker in the original Batman comic books. Jerome was successfully brought back to life by fanatical cult members, who have dedicated their lives to follow their deranged leader.
In the previous episode, titled “Smile Like You Mean It,” former Indian Hill employee Dwight Pollard (David Dasmalchian) skins Jerome’s face in desperation after believing that the reanimation project has failed. He then wears Jerome’s face as a mask and leads a group of cult members to attack a news station.
However, Jerome wakes up and eventually abducts Dwight. He then reattaches his old face and proceeds to cause a citywide blackout by means of explosives attached to Dwight.
Meanwhile, a confrontation between Nygma and Penguin is imminent in the incoming episode and may have deadly consequences. During an interview with Cartermatt, Smith revealed that there may be no hope for reconciliation between the two characters.
When asked if Penguin will be able to get Nygma back, Smith replied, “I don’t think there’s anything he can do. It’s much more than Isabella. Ed fell for her so quickly and it really felt like what Kringle represented — this normal life.”
He continued, “I think there’s a part of him that knows he’s good at scheming, and he could be this criminal, but there’s an option [that was there]. He felt like a man, he felt normal, he felt like there was someone he was really connected to. The way that he hated himself for ruining it with Kristen, the second time he finds normalcy and it is taken from him. It was his best friend who betrayed him, and that’s tough! It feels like any chance that he has of being normal is over now.”
‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 14, titled “Mad City: The Gentle Art of Making Enemies,” is scheduled to air on January 30, 2017 on Fox. It is considered the winter finale and will be followed by episode 15, titled "How the Riddler Got His Name," when the series returns on April 24.
