‘Gotham Season 3, Episode 12 Spoilers: “Mad City: Ghosts” Features Jeromes Return; Falcone Wants Gordon Dead After Shooting Mario

‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 12, titled “Mad City: Ghosts,” is set to feature Jerome’s return. Meanwhile, Falcone wants Gordon dead after he latter shot Mario in the preceding episode.

The synopsis for “Mad City: Ghosts” posted on TV Muse reads, “Falcone (John Doman) places a hit on Gordon (Ben McKenzie) after learning that he shot Mario (James Carpinello). Gordon and Bullock (Dnal Logue) discover a follower of Jerome (Cameron Monaghan), who plans to bring him back to life.

Meanwhile, Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) spirals out of control before the biggest television interview of his Mayoral career, and Bruce (David Mazouz) and Selina (Camren Bicondova) deal with Selina's mom's return to Gotham.”

The return of Gotham on Fox will mark the return of Jerome, the leader of the Maniax and a former inmate at the Arkham Asylum. It was speculated that the character is slated to become the iconic Batman villain, the Joker.

Jerome was first introduced in season 1’s 16th episode, titled “The Blind Fortune Teller.” However, he was killed off in season 2 when Theo Galavan (James Frain) stabbed him in the neck. It seems that a loyal follower is plotting to resurrect him and it is up to Gordon and Bullock to stop it from happening.

According to Comicbook.com, executive producer John Stephens teased Jerome’s return last April. Stephens said, “It is 100% our intention to bring Jerome back… You’ll have these underground movements that have started to talk about Jerome and what he represented and how he’s going to come back like in the days of John the Baptist.”

Stephens explained, “Setting the stage that if there is a Season 4, hopefully we’ll bring that back in a much bigger way and you’ll see these different versions of the Joker myth.”

He added, “He plays into the idea of transformation. When he comes back, you want to see that new version. That next step forward.”

Meanwhile, Gordon will have to face the consequences of shooting Mario dead as Falcone wants him killed for it. Gordon killed Mario, was already infected with Jervis Tetch's blood, in attempts to save Lee (Morena Baccarin).

‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 12, titled “Mad City: Ghosts,” is scheduled to air on Fox on January 16, 2017. It will be followed by episode 13, titled "Smile Like You Mean It," scheduled for January 23.
