More leaks appear in the wild pointing at a major design upgrade planned for GoPro HERO 9. A supposed rendered image of the upcoming action camera appears with a larger front-facing screen with a color display as well.
GoPro HERO 9 design upgrades: What to expect
Multiple generations of the GoPro HERO camera lineup have featured a front-facing screen. But the information that can be viewed from it has so far been limited as it only displays camera status and other information. In the advent of vlogging, it is not surprising that the camera company would want to upgrade this specific feature by adding a color screen in the front of GoPro HERO 9.
WinFuture revealed a series of supposed rendering images of GoPro HERO 9 showing the long-time rumored front-facing color display. The same report mentions the new feature is aimed at vlogging users, thus, suggesting that it could function as a monitor feed for the camera.
This is an interesting move, if it later tallies, because GoPro went all-out in launching a lineup of accessories for the GoPro HERO8 Black earlier this year that included a Display Mod. If the GoPro HERO 9 leaks are to be believed, it would still be unlikely for the upcoming camera to make the Display Mod unnecessary. The leaked design shows the front-facing color display is not anywhere close to the screen size of the Display Mod.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time the internet has seen bits of evidence seemingly pointing at a screen upgrade for GoPro HERO 9. It can be recalled that the documents GoPro filed for an unknown device showed the settings menu is was slightly tweaked changing the menu option “Touch Display” to “Displays.”
More recently, another photo made the rounds online claiming it was representing an outer shell of the GoPro HERO 9. The casing appears to have a bigger front display, so it further fueled speculations about the screen upgrade.
GoPro HERO 9 release date in 2020?
GoPro has yet to say anything about its next camera (or cameras). However, the appearance of these allegedly leaked photos and information suggests GoPro HERO 9 is in the pipeline. If so, there is a good chance that the next camera could be announced sometime in Fall.
