Global Geo-political Series: Trump-Netanyahu off to a good start

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a meeting and held a press conference at the White House. The body language suggests that the duo is getting along well. However, that is not a surprise. In the past, both have praised each other. Mr. Netanyahu openly supported Mr. Trump’s wall proposal by saying that he has built a wall and that works. Mr. Trump, on the other hand, promised to be a good friend of Israel and change the approach adopted by President Obama and his team in the past, which soured US and Israel relations. He didn't commit to one state or two state solutions but rather left it for the Israelis and Palestinians to decide.

During the press conference, President Trump said that he would be willing to work hard for a peace between Israel and Palestine and said he is ready to back any deal that makes both the Israelis and Palestinians happy. He called Prime Minister Netanyahu to hold on to the plan of extending settlements in the disputed land between Israel and Palestine for a bit as he said in the past that it is not good for peace. Mr. Netanyahu laid out his two pre-requisite for a peace deal; recognition of the Jewish state and abolish the hate against Israel, which is taught from a very early age in Palestine. They also seemed to share similar concerns with Iran and vowed to work together on that.

Words came out that Israel has no better ally that the United States and the United States has no better ally than Israel.
