Global Geo-political Series: President Trump says US not going into Syria

Policy experts might be scratching their heads as the US President clears during an interview with Maria Bartiromo of fox news that the United States is not entering the civil war in Syria. These comments come just days after the United States launched a powerful missile attack on a Syrian airbase from where an alleged chemical attack was launched.

After the attack on April 7th, the majority of the analyst assumed that the United States has changed its policy and will not be entering the Syrian battle with full force but the latest comments from the President creates a lot of confusion.

So, what could be going on or what would be the real stance of the US government?

One might find clues in President Trump’s joint conference with the king of Jordon.

In this video, President Trump condemns the chemical attack and says that it crossed many many lines. But what is most important to note that he criticized Obama administration for not using a chance when the Assad government was accused of chemical attacks. He falls just short of announcing the action but it was clear from the video that his administration was up to something.

Anybody, who has been following the Syrian civil war, would know that the inaction by the Obama administration made the US look weak and it proved costly in many fronts. Now that alleged Syrian chemical attack gave Trump an opportunity to not only show off strength but to create a different image of his administration; an administration of action.

We would not be surprised if the United States and Russia eventually agree to bring peace in Syria even with Assad remove from power. If that becomes the case, the point of confrontation would be the narration; like who won in Syria, Putin or Trump.
