Global Geo-political Series: Japanese ships join US armada to Korean Peninsula

Japan’s navy will carry out joint military drills with the United States near the Korean Peninsula as a show of strength against the aggression and threats posed by Kim Jong-Un’s regime in North Korea, which has been test-firing missiles near the Japanese waters. The tensions in the Peninsula reached a new level after President Trump said in an interview with the Fox news that he is sending a very powerful armada in the region that includes aircraft carriers and submarines. President Trump has also warned that even without any help from China, his administration is ready to act unilaterally to neutralize North Korean threats. This threat from the President became highly significant after the US launched missile strikes on Syrian airbase in response to alleged chemical attacks by the Assad regime. Mr. Trump has tweeted, “North Korea is looking for trouble. If China decides to help, that would be great. If not, we will solve the problem without them! U.S.A……..I explained to the President of China that a trade deal with the U.S. will be far better for them if they solve the North Korean problem!"

China has reportedly urged the United States for a peaceful solution to the North Korean problem and an editorial from its State-owned Global Times has warned North Korea that China would act unilaterally and with force if Korea’s impending sixth nuclear test endangers its bordering regions in the North East”.

While the Japanese military officials have refused to comment on the proposed drills, unconfirmed reports suggest that several Japanese navy destroyers and helicopters could be involved in the drill.
