Global Geo-political Series: Four Arab states ready for conditional easing of Qatar blockade

After a meeting with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and United Arab Emirates, the foreign minister of Bahrain indicated on Sunday that these countries stand ready for dialogues to ease the ongoing dispute with Qatar if the latter agrees to certain demands.

In June, the above four countries severed diplomatic as well as military ties with Qatar and accused the country of financing terrorist groups such as Muslim Brotherhood, supporting extremist ideologies, and of meddling in other countries’ affairs. Later that month, these countries presented Qatar a 13-point demands list via Kuwait, which is mediating in the crisis and had given 10 days to comply that was extended for another two days. The list included the removal of Turkish base in Qatar, closing of several media organization including the globally renowned Al Jazeera. However, Qatar didn’t comply with the demands, however reportedly offered some concessions, while the United States, Turkey press Arab allies to come to resolution via talks.

After the meeting, Turkish foreign minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa said, "The four countries are ready for dialogue with Qatar with the condition that it announces its sincere willingness to stop funding terrorism and extremism and its commitment to not interfere in other countries' foreign affairs and respond to the 13 demands".
