‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 has officially started filming in Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, a new location in Spain is expected to be Daenerys’ landing point on Westeros.
According to Entertainment Weekly, production for the upcoming season of HBO’s critically-acclaimed and highly popular fantasy television series has officially begun. Filming commenced in Northern Ireland on August 30 as revealed by sources.
Other locations for season 7 include Iceland and Spain. The series will be shooting for only seven episodes, as opposed to its usual 10-episode season run. Remaining cast members are expected to return along with newcomer Jim Broadbent, who is reportedly taking on a key role in the series.
According to the Independent, Muriola Beach in Barrika, Spain is rumored to be the landing point for Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and their troops as they seek to conquer Westeros. In the preceding season, Daenerys managed to amass a massive army. She then set sail for her homeland to take back the throne.
Another article from Metro also reported that the famous Dragonpit from the original book series will finally be featured in the incoming season. It was speculated that the Roman ruins in the city of Santiponce in Seville, Spain will serve as the Dragonpit filming set. This remains unconfirmed as of the moment.
‘Game of Thrones’ is a fantasy and drama television series based on George R. R. Martin’s best-selling books ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. It was created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. Since its premiere on the network on April 2011, it broke several viewership records and earned numerous accolades including 26 Primetime Emmy Awards.
Season 7 is scheduled to premiere later than usual in mid-2017. Returning cast members include Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jamie Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Kit Harrington as Jon Snow, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth, Natalie Emmanuel as Missandei, Conleth Hill as Varys, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont, and John Bradley as Samwell Tarly.
