‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is expected to return sometime in 2017. Iain Glen, who plays Ser Jorah Mormont in the series, revealed that he was uncertain about his character’s fate. Meanwhile, it was speculated that the incoming season will feature a flashback scene focusing on Jon Snow’s backstory.
During an interview with Radio Times, Iain Glen admitted that he was oblivious about his character Jorah Mormont’s fate. He revealed, “I don’t know of course if I am going to make the last one. I am sort of doing a head count, but I think it’s certainly under ten people who were in the original pilot and have been in every season since. I have grown very attached to it. I love the people involved. Dan and David are very benign showrunners and very good people.”
He added, "This season you feel that the drama is moving towards its end game, more characters are overlapping so we are seeing a lot more of each other, than perhaps in the past. In the same scenes and we are going to the same places.”
Ser Jorah debuted in the series premiere and remained a major character from seasons 1 through 6. He is an exiled Northern lord who swore allegiance to Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) although he originally worked as a spy for Varys (Conleth Hill), who reports to King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy).
When Dany learned of his traitorous past, she dismissed him from his service but later made his way back to her after capturing Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and saving her life from the Sons of the Harpy as well as other Dothraki. Along the way, he contracted the deadly grayscale to which she orders him to find a cure.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Glen admitted that season 7 was taking some time to produce despite its shorter episodes. He explained, “They are taking the length of time it takes to shoot 10 episodes to shoot just seven this year and six next year.”
He continued, “There are 15 more hours left in Thrones as we understand it, but that may change, but that’s as far as we know. I think the scale and size of the set pieces, the world that is being created it’s just getting more and more extraordinary and they feel they need that time to shoot seven hours as opposed to 10.”
Showrunners David Benioff and Daniel Weiss previously revealed that the final season will consist of 13 to 15 episodes. Benioff said, “We’ve known the end for quite some time and we’re hurtling towards it... Daenerys is finally coming back to Westeros; Jon Snow is king of the North and Cersei is sitting on the Iron Throne. And we know the Night King is up there, waiting for all of them.”
He added, “The pieces are on the board now. Some of the pieces have been removed from the board and we are heading toward the end game.”
Meanwhile, it was speculated that the incoming season will feature a flashback scene relating to Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) parentage. According to International Business Times, a Reddit leak suggested that season 7 will put focus on Jon’s backstory. A wedding between Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen is speculated to be featured, leading to the truth behind Jon Snow’s rightful position as the true heir to the throne of Westeros.
‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in summer 2017.
