Disney is well known for trying and succeeding to build an entire extended universe out of the movies that it makes, and it would seem that it is trying to do this with “Frozen 2.” This is based on what the most recent trailer appears to hint at, with the film expanding its world and lore. Could this lead to a new major franchise that the company can use as a cash cow?
In the most recent “Frozen 2” trailer that came out, as featured below, more details about the upcoming struggles by Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) were revealed, The Verge reports. From what the troll elder says in the clip, there is a lot more to the ice queen’s power than meets the eye. What’s more, the world they are living in appears to be much bigger than anyone thought.
Had anyone assumed that Elsa was an anomaly in the world of Frozen, it would not have been an unreasonable conclusion to come to. After all, no one else displayed extraordinary capabilities, and the only other proof of supernatural occurrences in the first film was the rock trolls. However, it would seem that “Frozen 2” will add more to the lore.
There would appear to be more monsters in this world and more myths that will come to life. What’s more, all of these things will supposedly have something to do with their parents. If nothing else, it’s clear that “Frozen 2” is ready to build its world to the point where it could potentially sustain a franchise.
If this ends up being the case, Disney has a lot of options to choose from in terms of which direction to take the franchise. It would all start with the premiere of “Frozen 2,” which would be on Nov. 22 later this year.
