Ford Motor has another recall announcement for 2.9 million vehicle units. This time, the problem is that they could roll away when parked.

As reported by CNN Business, the Ford Motor vehicles might not shift into the correct gear, and as a result, they may move in any direction. The U.S. National Highway Safety Administration stated that it has already received at least six reports related to property damage due to the issue. There are also four reports of injuries that have also resulted from the defect.

Based on the information shared, the affected Ford Motor vehicles are some of the brand's F series units and its sports utility vehicles. It was explained that the problem is with the transmission as it may not be in the park position even if the shifter position indicates that the car was already shifted to the park gear.

This is dangerous because after the drivers alighted from the vehicle, thinking that they have already safely parked the vehicle, they may be surprised to see the unit rolling away. This could heighten the risk of a crash and injury.

"Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles," the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wrote in its report regarding the latest recall. "The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

The NHTSA added, "A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury."

In any case, it was reported that a similar issue caused the death of Anton Yelchin. The American actor died in 2016 when his Jeep rolled down his driveway, and he was pinned to a brick post in front of his home in Los Angeles. Fortunately, since this accident, there has been no other report of fatalities as per the NHTSA.
