“Fear The Walking Dead" Season 4 Episode 16 ended with a whimper to the surprise of no one. The show had been on a downward spiral even before the death of Madison (Kim Dickens) and Nick (Frank Dillane).

After their deaths, the showrunners opted to give Morgan (Lennie James) the spotlight. However, he was a character that proved to be insufficient to carry the spin-off forward. Indeed, the writers seemed to be fixated on what the audience knew about Morgan -- that his morals remain stalwart in the face of violence. And this was yet again featured in “Fear the Walking Dead" Season 4 Episode 16” as the character refused to kill the Filthy Woman (Tonya Pinkins), Entertainment Weekly reported.

This installment’s antagonist was poorly written and it had been a glaring fact since the introduction of the character. But it wasn’t just the villain who was uninspired this season but its whole premise as well. “Fear the Walking Dead" Season 4 Episode 16 saw all the characters except Morgan struggle to find the antidote to the anti-freeze substance they were tricked into drinking by the Martha.

While it was revealed that they had an abundant supply of the antidote inside an abandoned truck nearby, the crashed vehicle was surrounded by Walkers. “Fear the Walking Dead" Season 4 Episode 16 didn’t have that much in the way of tension either, even when the major characters were literally dying. This was because it was hard to root for them since they didn’t really have any qualities to root for in the first place.

Most of them were always wallowing in self-pity for most of this installment, and to nobody’s surprise, a renewed hope was given to the ensemble by the end of “Fear the Walking Dead" Season 4 Episode 16.

As for Martha, she eventually met her demise at the end and no one in the group was directly responsible for it. Even Morgan, who was presented with the opportunity by Martha herself, didn’t choose to kill her but left her handcuffed to a police car. While it’s understandable that Morgan wanted to help Martha recover from her madness, it was tedious watching him go about it all season long especially since the villain was portrayed as someone beyond helping. And so “Fear the Walking Dead" Season 4 Episode 16 ended with the crew grouped together, determined to make the post-apocalyptic world a better place. A season ending worthy of a sigh.
