The Netherlands' privacy regulator, the AP, announced an investigation into Chinese AI firm DeepSeek over data collection concerns. Dutch users are advised to exercise caution when using the company's software due to potential privacy risks.
AP Chairman Aleid Wolfsen stated that DeepSeek’s handling of personal data raises serious concerns. European data protection laws require strict conditions for storing citizens’ personal information abroad, which DeepSeek must comply with.
The Netherlands' probe follows Italy’s recent decision to block DeepSeek’s app over similar privacy issues. Ireland and France have also requested details about the company’s data processing practices. The AP confirmed it is working with other EU regulators to share findings and coordinate further actions.
The growing scrutiny highlights increasing concerns over how AI companies collect and use personal data. European regulators continue to enforce strict privacy protections to safeguard citizens' information.
