Twice-impeached, former President Donald Trump is under immense scrutiny to this day for attempting to stage a coup and overturn the 2020 election results. In a recent interview, the former president admitted that he tried to make his then-Attorney General Bill Barr get impeached for trying to help the efforts to overturn the elections.

Speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity Wednesday, Trump admitted that he tried to pressure Barr to take the fall for the attempts made by him and his allies to overturn the 2020 elections. The former president ranted about the investigations that he is currently at the center of, then went on to rip into Barr, who ultimately refused to take the fall.

Barr resigned in December of 2020 after rejecting Trump’s claims of voter fraud and refusing to order a special counsel to investigate such claims. Trump’s acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen also refused to pursue an investigation into alleged voter fraud in the elections. Trump said Barr’s refusal to get impeached was a “sad day” for the country.

“I said, ‘Look, get impeached. I went up a lot in the polls when I got impeached. You have to get impeached, maybe.’ But he was so afraid of getting impeached he refused to do his job,” said the former president.

Several Trump aides have already come forward and testified before the January 6 committee in the midst of the refusal of some. Several aides of former Vice President Mike Pence have also come forward to testify to the panel. The latest Trump aide to come forward to the committee was senior adviser Stephen Miller, with MSNBC’s legal correspondent Ari Melber explaining that Miller ended the Trump administration “openly, talking up a plot to steal the election with fraudulent electors.”

Melber explained that the plan by Trump and his allies to overturn the election was already “seeping out in little ways” days before the January 6 riots.

Melber added that because of Miller’s testimony, the former adviser admitted to the coup to overthrow the government and stay in power, citing the December 14, 2020 appearance of Miller on Fox News, where the former adviser talked about alternative electors.

“What Miller admitted there matters. It shows how far he would go for Trump and it was not until many months later we learned how serious that fraudulent electors plot was,” said Melber.
