“Dexter” Season 9 is still trending on Google search pages despite showrunners and its stars being quiet about the possibility of it happening. It’s likely that the rumors will die down after the crime drama series’ anniversary has passed, which is on Oct. 1.
Most of the noise being generated across the web is the work of fans who are still hoping for a ninth installment, OtakuArt reported. They want “Dexter” Season 9 since the show ended with a whimper rather than fireworks and a body count.
However, it will take more than a miracle to revive the show since it’s already been five years when the last episode aired. What’s more, Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan) is currently involved in Netflix crime-mystery drama “Safe.”
If Showtime is indeed planning to revive the show and air “Dexter” Season 9, they first have to see how scheduling will take place given that Hall is already committed to his current project. But the network could also opt for a spin-off instead, involving Hall in some episodes or decide to completely take him out the picture.
This isn’t unheard of since there are a lot of shows that have created spin-offs from successful series like “Breaking Bad” and “Prison Break.” “Dexter” Season 9 could have a new anti-hero lead the next installment, and one candidate would be Dexter’s son, who was last seen being raised by Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski), a killer herself.
This would create new possibilities for the crime drama series and showrunners would have a lot of creative room to work with. They can take on the untapped avenues that the previous installments failed to incorporate, breathing new life to the show. But all of these are simply wishful thinking since Showtime has been completely silent about a possible “Dexter” Season 9. Even other networks haven’t said anything about the prospect of picking up the show and giving it a new home.
