Tesla’s radical Cybertruck has arrived in South Korea for certification, stirring excitement as it marks the first country outside North America to prepare for its debut. The Korea Transportation Safety Authority is now conducting critical tests to pave the way for potential sales.
Reportedly, the Tesla Cybertruck has travelled to South Korea for possible certification, according to Teslarati. The all-electric pickup would be authorized for sale and operation in this market, making history as the first market outside of North America to do so.
Cybertruck Set for Certification in South Korea
At this time, Cybertruck is only available in the US and Mexico. The car is only authorized for extensive sales in those two countries, while some units have found their way to other nations and are in the possession of some controversial personalities.
The Canadian market is anticipating its arrival next month.
KATRI to Conduct Testing on Tesla Cybertruck
South Korean regulators are planning to certify the Cybertruck for passenger sales soon, according to a fresh story in local media.
According to Bloter, a South Korean news outlet, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (KATRI) has taken possession of a Cybertruck. The following was confirmed by an official:
“The Tesla Cybertruck came to the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI) in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province for certification purposes.”
Tesla Pushes for Certification in Global Markets
The representative said that Tesla had sent the device straight to them:
“KATRI receives various vehicles for certification, including vehicles imported directly by individuals or companies, but in the case of the Cybertruck, the seller (Tesla) is in the process of receiving certification directly.”
This bodes well for the imminent release of the Cybertruck into the market, even if Tesla has not explicitly stated a target release date.
Speculation Surrounds a Potential International Version
Speculation has claimed that Tesla was going to release an "international version" of Cybertruck—a more diminutive model better suited to the winding, narrow streets and alleyways typical of Asia and Europe.
In a post he made on X last month, Musk bolstered these notions by confirming that the truck appeared to be in high demand in markets outside of North America.
