Cisco is will add its Webex conferencing tools to the dashboard of Mercedes-Benz vehicles arriving in dealerships in the coming weeks.
Among the Mercedes-Benz cars is the 2024 E Class, which will be equipped with Wi-Fi and a cellular data connection to let drivers download the Webex application to appear on the infotainment system’s dashboard, doing away with a mobile phone.
However, the users can only use audio when the vehicle is moving, as a safety precaution.
But all features, including video meetings, automatic transcription, and content-sharing, can be used when it is parked.
Cisco plans to announce other partnerships this week, one with Samsung ) for Webex integration in its flagship phones and another with Intel for private 5G.
The growth of video-conferencing platforms, such as Webex, Zoom, and Teams has slowed since the lifting of the pandemic-induced lockdowns and the companies are seeking opportunities to expand.
Zoom has tied up with Tesla to equip its vehicles with conferencing tools.
