NBC’s One Chicago universe is highly anticipated to be renewed this fall including “Chicago PD” season 7. It has only been weeks since its sixth season concluded, so expect the network to remain a little secretive about its release date. New installments of “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago Med” are also anticipated to premiere.
It is not difficult to predict when “Chicago PD” season 7 would premiere. Fans can now take a sigh of relief as NBC is expected not to alter One Chicago’s usual schedule. That could mean that the series would likely return sometime in September and all three shows will have Wednesday night time slots.
Aside from the show’s first season that premiered in January 2014, all the following installments were part of NBC’s annual fall lineup. Seasons 2 to 6 were all given a late September premiere. In fact, seasons 5 and 6 were released on Sept. 27 and 26 in 2017 and 2018, respectively. So it is safe to assume that “Chicago PD” season 7 will air sometime in the last week of September as well.
The start of “Chicago PD” season 7 will be extra interesting considering how chaotic the season 6 finale was for the show’s major players. The final scenes appeared to suggest that Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) killed the newly elected mayor and his rival Brian Kelton (John C. McGinley). Meanwhile, Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) has apparently relapsed from his painkiller addiction before the curtains closed on season 6.
It’s been an honor portraying Det. Antonio Dawson in the #OneChicago world. To my cast #Family, I’ll always treasure the time and stories we shared. To all you #chihards out there, THANK YOU for being the best of fans! We’ll Always have CHICAGO ???????? pic.twitter.com/pJRwphtMAu

If the season 6 finale did not make it very clear whether Antonio is coming back in “Chicago PD” season 7 or not, Seda has already set the record straight a month since the episode aired. “It’s been an honor portraying Det. Antonio Dawson in the #OneChicago world. To my cast #Family, I’ll always treasure the time and stories we shared,” Seda wrote on Twitter. “To all you #chihards out there, THANK YOU for being the best of fans! We’ll Always have CHICAGO.”
