While Burger King hasn't officially confirmed it, customers in New York are beginning to notice that salads are among the items missing from its menu.
Social media users and several Burger King restaurant managers said that the fast-food chain had stopped offering salads. Several Burger King locations in Queens and Long Island have already removed salads, of any variety, from their menu boards.
As of January, a Chicken Garden Salad and a side salad were available.
Four New York-area restaurant managers confirmed that salads were "gone" and "won't be coming back," with one of them quipping that water is the healthiest thing on their menu.
Carrols Restaurant Group, which operates more than 1,000 restaurants and is the largest Burger King franchisee in the US, announced recently that it is reducing the number of chicken nuggets in its meals from 10 pieces to 8 pieces, without offering consumers a lower price.
Carrols explained that the move was in response to inflation and an alternative to raising prices.
The Whopper will be phased out from the chain's main discount menu, as well as from Two for $5 and Two for $6 specials.
According to RBI's CEO José Cil, the Whopper had been on the bargain menu "for far too long."
Burger King announced it would market the Whopper as a premium, "iconic" offering in the future.
Burger King may possibly eliminate single, double, and triple Whoppers as separate items and make changes to the original chicken sandwich with the new Ch'King sandwich becoming the chain's standard offering.
