“Buffy The Vampire Slayer” Cast Members Reunite In Time For 20th Anniversary; Would There Be A TV Reboot?

The entire cast of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” recently reunited for a special edition of Entertainment Weekly. The special marked the celebration of the show’s 20th anniversary. The reunion reunited series creator Joss Whedon, Sarah Michelle Gellar (who played the titular role), and co-stars Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson, Alyson Hannigan, David Boreanaz, James Marsters, Seth Green, Charisma Carpenter, Michelle Trachtenberg, Kristine Sutherland, Alexis Denisof and Nicholas Brendon, who all gamely posed for photos for their special edition cover.

Whedon said about the reunion, “This is surreal. For the most part, this is like a high school reunion but much worse because they all still look really great. I was hoping some of them would puff out a bit. But that did not take place.”

Gellar, who, along with the other cast members, has since moved on from their roles in “Buffy.” But she believes that “Buffy” will always have a special role in their hearts. She said, “I’m so incredibly proud of what we all created. Sometimes you need distance to really understand the gravitas of that. I appreciate everything about that job. As an actor, all you ever want to do is leave your mark — you want to do something that affects people.”

But is the reunion signals plans for a reboot? In early March, Whedon did not discount the possibility of the TV reboot happening. However, he expressed his fears about doing a reboot. He explained, "I see a little bit of what I call monkey's paw in these reboots. You bring something back, and even if it's exactly as good as it was, the experience can't be. You've already experienced it, and part of what was great was going through it for the first time. You have to meet expectations and adjust it for the climate, which is not easily. Luckily most of my actors still look wonderful, but I'm not worried about them being creaky. I'm more worried about me being creaky as a storyteller. You don't want that feeling that you should have left before the encore. I don't rule it out, but I fear that."
