Gearbox has yet to break their silence regarding news about “Borderlands 3,” which got fans of the franchise restless. It was initially thought that the studio will announce the third entry during the Game Awards in 2018 but that assumption proved to be a letdown.
There are a lot of factors that are being attributed to Gearbox’s silence regarding “Borderlands 3,” with the most prominent being the current lawsuit faced by Take-Two CEO Randy Pitchford. The legal battle sparked when former company lawyer Wade Callender accused Pitchford of siphoning money for personal gain in 2016, Polygon reported.
The amount in question is supposedly worth $12 million and came at a time when the company refused to raise its employee’s salary. After news broke out, Gearbox said that Callender’s allegation is purely fiction and said that they’re willing to meet him in court to clear Pitchford’s name. Pitchford himself has also denied the accusations and said that he was “shocked” at the lies that Callender is peddling. With this complication plaguing the studio, the fate of “Borderlands 3” remains an uncertainty.
But there are clues out there hinting that the next entry of the franchise may already be in development. These clues came from Pitchford in the form of cryptic tweets that heavily implied the creation of “Borderlands 3.”
“MY TO DO LIST TODAY HAS JUST 3 THINGS ON IT. BUT I ALSO HAVE 3 MEETINGS SCHEDULED BEFORE 3 PM. IS THE UNIVERSE TELLING ME SOMETHING?” read one of the tweets. Vague as the post might be, there’s a chance that Pitchford might be talking about “Borderlands 3.”
The claim gains even more traction when rumors started spreading on the web that Gearbox is developing a triple-A game that has yet to be named. There are only two things that the community know about this mysterious title. One, Take-Two is expecting huge things from it. And two, it’s going to be released in the 2020 fiscal year of the company. Hopefully, the rumors hold true and “Borderlands 3” will come out next year. But even if it does, it will need to deliver hard on several fronts given that the looter-shooter genre is experiencing its golden age at the moment.
