‘Black Mirror’ season 4 is scheduled to return to Netflix sometime in 2017. Meanwhile, Jodie Foster is set to direct an episode for the incoming season starring Rosemarie DeWitt of ‘Rachel Getting Married’ fame.
According to Variety, season 4 is scheduled to begin production later this year ahead of a scheduled premiere on Netflix sometime in 2017. The first two seasons were aired on UK’s Channel 4 while Netflix took over for season 3.
The series was created by English satirist and broadcaster Charlie Brooker. Brooker also executive produces the series together with Annabel Jones. The two will continue to work together on season 4.
Brooker admitted during a previous interview, “I’ve always been a fan of one-off, quirky, weird stories you’d see on ‘The Twilight Zone’ or ‘Tales of the Unexpected,’… Also, the BBC would put on one-off plays that were often controversial or incredibly depressing. I missed those shows where you would run to someone and say, ‘This guy was the last man on earth, and he broke his glasses, and it was amazing!’”
Jones added, “We want an interesting concept with a preposterous idea… But we want to keep it grounded, and find the most interesting human story within it.”
Although the official release date for the fourth season has yet to be revealed, it was reported by Deadline that Jodie Foster will be coming in to helm an episode starring Rosemarie DeWitt. Foster is best known for directing the 1995 comedy-drama film ‘Home for the Holidays’, the 2011 drama film ‘The Beaver’, the 2016 thriller film ‘Money Monster’, and two episodes of Netflix’ comedy-drama series ‘Orange Is The New Black.’
Meanwhile, DeWitt is best known for her title role on the 2008 drama film ‘Rachel Getting Married’, where she garnered multiple accolades including a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress. No details have been provided for Foster and DeWitt’s episode as of the present.
The British anthology series has already featured well-known actors in previous seasons including Rory Kinnear of ‘Spectre’, Rupert Everett of ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’, Toby Kebbell of ‘Ben-Hur’, Jon Hamm of ‘Mad Men’, Hayley Atwell of ‘Agent Carter’, Domhnall Gleeson of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, Tobias Menzies of ‘Outlander’, and Jessica Brown Findlay of ‘Downton Abbey.’
‘Black Mirror’ season 4 is expected to return to Netflix sometime in 2017. The British anthology television series was created by Charlie Brooker and deals with dark and satirical themes associated with the dangers and consequences of new technology.
