Showtime drama series "Billions," starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, wrapped up its third season just last June. The show was renewed for a fourth season last April, a month into the show's third season.
The show is known for the mind-game plots amongst the Manhattan elite characters based loosely on the true-to-life experiences of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara. Bharara is known for his legal battles with Steven Cohen of S.A.C. Capital Advisors, which focused on his investigations into inside trading within the organization. Paul Giamatti stands in for Preet Bharara in “Billions'” fictional world as U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades, who is pitted against Axe Capital hedge fund manager Robert Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis and based on Steven Cohen.
With its inherently cerebral basis, the show has gained quite a following over the years despite its relative obscurity due to the good acting and interesting twists and turns despite the occasionally confusing plot. To date, “Billions” is within the top 4 in terms of number of viewers on Showtime – just separated by “Ray Donovan” in third place from Damian Lewis' old show, “Homeland.”
The latest news on the financial thriller for fans of the show has been sparse since its wrap-up in June. But fans will be glad to know that “Billions” season 4 will see the promotion of Kelly AuCoin, who plays “Dollar” Bill Stern, to a show regular. Bill Stern, a trader at Axe Capital, is a close companion of Lewis' Bobby Axelrod. How AuCoin's Stern will be essential as a regular cast member has yet to be teased or spoiled by the cast and crew of “Billions.”
Even with the renewal, Showtime has yet to provide an exact official air date for “Billions” season 4. Considering the show's consistent air dates following each other after 13 months, Fans can expect “Billions” season 4 to air sometime in March or April of 2019.
