The sixth season of “Better Call Saul” is coming up and as it has reached its endpoint now, everyone is expecting Jimmy McGill’s (Bob Odenkirk) full transformation to Saul Goodman. This is because the end means his story has already caught up with the timeline of the “Breaking Bad” series where Goodman’s character originates. “BCS” is a prequel that shows his backstory, before he became associated with criminals by representing them as their lawyer.
Filming update
Now, like most of the shows today, filming for “Better Call Saul” season 6 was also delayed. And just like the others, the production was forced to stop due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The bad news is that filming for the sixth and final season of the drama will not be resuming until next year and this was revealed by Giancarlo Esposito, the actor who plays Gus Fring in “BCS.” He gave this update during a remote interview with “HeyUGuys” just a few days ago.
Although he was interviewed for the upcoming “Godfather of Harlem” docu-series, he was also asked about “Better Call Saul” season 6 so he shared something about their new filming schedule. The 62-year-old actor said that they will not be returning to the set until next spring due to COVID-19. This means that the cast and crew will only go back to filming in March 2021.
"We were slated to go in September. We now look like we'll be going in March,” he told Stefan Pape of HeyUGuys. “We have a brilliant team of writers so it's always exciting to think about getting back to work.”
He added that he is really excited for “Better Call Saul” season 6 showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould as they will be returning on the set. Esposito also revealed Vince already confirmed the filming as well by telling him that he is going to be really busy.
Will Jesse Pinkman and Walter White appear in the finale?
Fans have been wishing for Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul to appear in “Better Call Saul” season 6 as they surely missed the characters in a drama that ended in 2013. But while the two expressed their interest in reprising their roles, it seems that their characters have no place in the finale of “BCS” so they are not likely to appear.
“We have an idea for where we think this is going, what ends all this, and characters who may or may not return like Walt and Jesse,” Gilligan told Collider. “But you don’t want to commit to anything too much because things change and if the story zigs or zags in a way that makes it impossible for us to have even beloved characters back, we won’t have them back.”
He explained that their main goal for “Better Call Saul” season 6 is to offer a story that makes sense on its own rather than be dependent on references like old characters. Finally, this drama is concluding with 13 episodes with no definite premiere date yet.
