Best Buy Health is known to provide world-class technology and systems for advanced healthcare. Now it is helping the health industry further by signing a 3-year deal with Atrium Health to make hospital-at-home care possible and easier.
Through its new partnership with Atrium Health, Best Buy Health will set up virtual hospital rooms for people who need healthcare, even if they are at home. The company, which is best known as a consumer electronics retailer, said on Tuesday, March 7, that together with the North Carolina-based healthcare company, which is also part of Advocate Health, it will create a hospital-at-home program where Best Buy’s Geek Squad will visit the patient’s home to set up a system that will allow remote monitoring of their blood oxygen level, heart rate, and other vitals.
As per CNBC, the Geek Squad will also train the patient or family members on how to use the devices. All the data are securely shared with doctors, health professionals, and nurses via the telemedicine hub from Current Health so the patient can get the healthcare he or she needs.
It was noted that Best Buy started putting up virtual care health systems in February and these were installed in around 10 hospitals around Charlotte, North Carolina. The company’s goal is to enlist around 100 patients in the virtual hospital program each day. This target number is roughly equivalent to a mid-sized hospital that has no actual building.
The financial terms of Best Buy and Atrium Health’s deal were not disclosed, but it was specified that the latter would purchase the devices from the former and use its Geek Squad services as well for installation and retrieval when the patient is removed from care.
“We knew Atrium Health was the right partner," Best Buy Health’s president, Deborah Di Sanzo, said in a press release. “We are excited to leverage our expertise in omnichannel, supply chain, Caring Center support and services, in-home support, and our ability to connect patients and providers through Current Health’s care at home platform.”
Chief innovation and commercialization officer at Advocate Health, Dr. Rasu Shrestha, further stated, “Our partnership with Best Buy Health will help change the lives of our patients and consumers, giving them access to the tools and experiences they need to receive care in the comfort of their own home.”
