‘Avengers: Infinity War’ underwent name changes that revealed it would no longer be a back-to-back installment and will be just one feature film. However, a mysterious second film is still in the works. Meanwhile, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely announced that they were currently working on the third draft of the script for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
According to Nerdist, the previously announced back-to-back installment of the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ films planned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe will no longer be broken down into two parts.
It was reported that the ‘Infinity War’ film in development will be one full-feature movie. However, a second mystery film entitled ‘Untitled Avengers’ is announced to be in the works. It is unclear whether this new Marvel film will be included in the MCU’s planned roster for Phase Four.
According to Deadline, the two films were first announced together in October 2014 as ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 2’. The first film is scheduled for a May 4, 2018 release while the second is scheduled for a May 3, 2019 release.
Both will be helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo. The filmmaker brothers helmed the superhero film ‘Captain America: Civil War’, which was released last May 6, 2016 to critical and commercial success. They also directed 2014’s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ following Joss Whedon’s exit from the franchise.
Although no details have been provided for the upcoming films as of the present, actors Robert Downey Jr., Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Elizabeth Olsen are confirmed to be involved.
Meanwhile, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed that they are currently on the third draft of the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ screenplay while also working on the second draft of the planned 2019 follow-up. During an interview with Yahoo! Movies at the San Diego Comic-Con, the two talked about the new films’ progress.
They said, “We’re many drafts in. We’re on the third draft of movie one and the second draft of movie two. [We’re writing them in tandem] as much as we can. On any given day, you’re only working on one but that doesn’t mean that next week, you aren’t working on the other one. And certainly, notes are coming in and all sorts of production stuff is coming in, like for instance, ‘that thing over there is now a window not a door so adjust that.’ Or, ‘we’re not going to this town now, we’re going to this town.’ That kind of stuff happens constantly and will continue to happen for the next few months.”
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is an upcoming action-adventure and superhero film scheduled to be released in theaters on May 4, 2018. It is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is produced by Kevin Feige with Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Jon Favreau, Alan Fine, and Stan Lee executive producing. It is intended as part of the MCU’s Phase Three and follows Ryan Coogler’s standalone ‘Black Panther’ film.
