‘American Horror Story’ season 6 continues to tease details leading up to September’s premiere. Creator Ryan Murphy said that they hope to reveal the incoming season’s theme and cast early next year. He also admitted that he planned to continue the series until season 7 and 8 to be inspired by ‘Twilight Zone’.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy teased that they are hoping to reveal that incoming season’s actual theme early next year. He said, “John Landgraf [of FX] and Dana Walden [of Fox TV Group] and I were talking, and the show is in its sixth season, and we've always done everything by the book. Come January or February I announce what the theme is, and then we announce the cast. We wanted to [create a] different experience for the fans this year. But that doesn't mean we'll do that for season seven or even season eight.”
FX has been releasing multiple teasers for season 6 but details continue to be kept under wraps. According to Landgraf, the teasers were “hypothetical” and were misdirects except for one. It was speculated that the real teaser links up to preceding seasons.
Landgraf explained, "Every year, we lay out the themes and the new genre Ryan [Murphy] is going to be approaching; we thought it'd be fun [this year] to keep it a mystery — so we are." The highly popular horror television series is intended to be an anthology series, with each season covering a specific theme and storyline. Each season follows a specific set of characters and has its own setting.
According to Hollywood.com, Murphy revealed that all seasons are connected in some way. He also admitted that he planned to continue the series for a seventh and eighth season. He said, “…We lay a lot of pipe, and you'll see it explode in seasons seven and eight. They haven't officially been picked up yet by John Landgraf — he and I always talk at the end of the year and decide how many we want to do.”
He continued, “But John has always said, and I have always agreed, that this is a show that could be like The Twilight Zone and run for multiple, multiple seasons and have its own inner mythology. So that's how we're approaching it. I'll keep doing it for as long as we have the ideas and the momentum. I really love doing it.”
‘American Horror Story’ is a supernatural-horror and drama anthology series created and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck. It originally aired on FX on October 2011.
Season 6 is scheduled to premiere on the network on September 14, 2016. It is produced under 20th Century Fox Television, Ryan Murphy Productions and Brad Falchuck Teley-Vision.
