“Altered Carbon” season 2 will still focus on Takeshi Kovacs new adventures only now he will be in an all-new sleeve portrayed by Anthony Mackie. But one of the highly expected arcs for the main protagonist is his continuing search for Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry).
The real status of Quellcrist offered one of the interesting arcs in the first season and it is likely a major part of “Altered Carbon” season 2 as well. In the TV series adaptation, she was written as dead long before the show’s present timeline started. But she is known for leading the rebellion against the Protectorate and for training the Envoys where Kovacs used to serve.
Throughout the first season, she appeared through Kovacs’ visions until it was revealed that her cortical stack was properly stored. This means, technically, she is still alive and Kovacs could be reunited to her once she finds a new sleeve. Speculations of a possible reunion between Quellcrist and Kovacs was further ignited when Netflix confirmed that Goldsberry will reprise her role in “Altered Carbon” season 2.
It is important to note, though, that Goldsberry’s role is presented as the original body of Quellcrist that has been established as the deceased at the beginning of the series. It is then possible that Kovacs, in his new sleeve, will continue to have visions of his love interest in “Altered Carbon” season 2. But how they will be reunited – if they will – is still a puzzle among fans.
The sci-fi series is based on the same title novel saga by Richard Morgan. “Altered Carbon” season 2 is then expected to feature major parts of the plot from the second book “Broken Angels.” This is somehow confirmed when Netflix confirmed that the second installment will introduce Colonel Ivan Carrera (Torben Liebrecht). He is the leader of the mercenary group called Carrera’s Wedge which Kovacs will most likely join in the upcoming episodes.
The filming of “Altered Carbon” season 2 reportedly started in February and expected to continue for a few more months. The series is then likely to return in late 2019.
