This month marks the first anniversary of “Altered Carbon” on Netflix and fans have been asking when season 2 will arrive. The filming of the show has just started this month and it could mean that the wait will last until later this year.
The “Altered Carbon” season 2 filming dates, as listed on IMDb, spans from Feb. 2 through June 25. This means that an official release date will not be announced anytime soon.
Fans can estimate when “Altered Carbon” season 2 will arrive based on season 1’s end-of-filming date and its official premiere on Netflix last year. The first installment reportedly wrapped up production by the end of June 2017 and was released in February 2018 that translates to an eight-month gap.
It is, however, important to note that “Altered Carbon” season 2 will be two-episode shorter than its predecessor. This could explain why the second installment’s production started later but slated to wrap up around the same time in 2017. If post-production would also require a shorter period, Netflix might aim for a release date in late 2019. Otherwise, fans could be looking at an early 2020 premiere.
The first series was named as one of the expensive productions shouldered by Netflix. It sparked concerns that the streaming service company could also cancel the show just like it did with shows like “Sense8” and “The Get Down.” Luckily, “Altered Carbon” season 2 was ordered in July 2018 along with the announcement of some changes such as its episode count and main cast member.
Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Anthony Mackie will portray the role of Takeshi Kovacs in “Altered Carbon” season 2, a character that was previously played by Joel Kinnaman. The show and the same title novel series where it is based is set in a futuristic world where human consciousness can be stored and uploaded to a new body. This explains why Kovacs will have an all-new portrayal for the upcoming installment.
