Alita (Rosa Salazar) is highly anticipated to start her journey to Zalem in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” While Nova has been established as his main adversary based on the first movie’s events, Alita might have one more rival in Iron City to eliminate to fulfill her destiny.
Alita needs to settle one more fight in Iron City before going to Zalem
Being a citizen of Iron City, Alita’s only way to reach Zalem is to earn money by becoming the Final Champion of the Motorball tournament. Considering Alita has been trained as a Martian warrior and her cybernetic enhancements should make it a very achievable feat. Since it was not part of the first movie, this very likely one of the first storylines to be tackled in “Alita: Battle Angel 2” before she confronts Nova in Zalem.
When Hugo (Keean Johnson) introduced Motorball to Alita, she saw the reigning Final Champion, Jashugan (Jai Courtney), getting ready for a match. It would not be surprising if that very brief scene was a foreshadowing of one of the rivalries Alita will have to deal with in “Alita: Battle Angel 2.”
While the first movie did not show Jashugan in action, he had quite a significant role in Yukito Kishiro’s 1990s manga “Gunnm” where “Alita: Battle Angel” is based. Additionally, in the manga, Jashugan had a direct connection to Nova -- a plot that could be carried over the live-action movie sequel. This would be a good way to set up Alita’s bigger challenge ahead concerning Nova and avenging the death of Hugo.
‘Alita: Battle Angel 2’ petition is a few thousand away from surpassing 160,000 signatures
The original manga series was published for years, and it has enough materials that can be used for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” and beyond. However, the sequel has yet to be confirmed and avid fans can only hope that the title will not be lost among the many popular franchises Disney has to sort out after acquiring 20th Century Fox last year.
On the bright side, more fans are joining the campaign to have “Alita: Battle Angel 2” confirmed. Thousands of new signatures are still adding to the online petition for the sequel. It just crossed the 150,000-mark in mid-May and has gained 7,000 new signatures as of this writing. But without Disney’s official stamp of approval, it is still impossible to say when the sequel would be released.
