Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch the AirPods 3, and it is still slated to arrive in stores this year. While a release date is still unknown, a reliable leaker has claimed that the next entry-level true wireless earbuds are “ready to go.”
AirPods 3 release date, design
Toward the end of 2020, rumors were rife that the AirPods 3 was one of the products Apple was supposed to announce in early 2021. The company’s spring launch event, however, went by without a new model of wireless earbuds in the announcements. But that does not necessarily mean it is not coming at all.
A new report from Bloomberg says Apple is “readying” its next entry-level AirPods, which would be the third generation of its line and would be the latest refresh since March 2019. There were previous claims that the AirPods 3 was going to launch on May 18, which obviously did not pan out. But well-known leaker Jon Prosser said in a new video that the wireless earbuds are “in boxes” and “ready to go.”
Prosser added that this could explain why there have been several live photos of supposed AirPods 3 units that keep on appearing online over the past few months. The images correspond with reports from 2020 that Apple’s next base AirPods will sport a similar design as the 2019 AirPods Pro, including a shorter stem and an in-ear form factor. In the same Bloomberg report, it was also noted that the AirPods 3 would be released with a new case that would also be in line with the anticipated design tweaks.
AirPods Pro 2 delayed to 2022; new stemless Beats launching in June
The situation with the AirPods Pro 2 appears to be completely different, though. It was expected to be part of Apple’s late 2021 announcements, but the same sources now say its launch is now slated for next year.

Bloomberg added that Apple had tested a new appearance for the AirPods Pro 2 that has a smaller form factor and does not have any stem. However, this design is expected to appear first on the new Beats that could be called the Beats Studio Buds, which the same report says is going to launch in June.
