Netflix has officially confirmed the return of “A Series Of Unfortunate Events” for Season 2 with much promotion, including a dedicated website and a video announcement. The website, www.vastlyfrighteningdecision.com, contains GIFs of what could be clips from the Season 2 episodes, and a hilarious letter penned and signed by author Daniel Handler alias Lemony Snicket with the mysterious eye symbol used as a letterhead.
Part of the letter read, “To my horror, Netflix has been encouraged by this and funneled their ill-gotten gains towards a second season of this unhappy and unnerving series. Even as we speak, set builders, costume designers and trauma specialists are snapping into action, the better to bring you even more upsetting episodes, all because of your reputed enthusiasm for this grim example of so-called family programming.”
GamesRadar said Netflix did not confirm a date for the Season 2 premiere, but given Season 1’s premiere date in January this year, it is expected that the show might return around the same time next year. Metro also said Handler has previously expressed that the next five of his 13 books - The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital and The Carnivorous Carnival - will be featured in the second season.
Handler also hinted that he might do Season 3, which would potentially cover books 10 to 13. Den of Geek quoted the author, who said, “I am deep in season 2. I’ve been working in my own dining room with a team of writers I’m really loving on the next season, and we hope to get the go-ahead to do season 3, which… given how quickly young actors age and change, we’re trying to film everything as quickly as possible.”
