Peter Thiel is a documented sexist who once wrote publicly that women’s right to vote is a bad thing. True to form, he just donated $1.25 million to the Trump campaign despite the many controversies surrounding the presidential candidate. This money will be going to support a person who is currently facing multiple accusations of sexual harassment and yet still has a very real chance of winning the election.
Sources told The New York Times that the money donated by Thiel is a combination of funds that were personally given to the campaign as well as Super PAC donations. This makes the Silicon Valley billionaire one of the few big names in the tech industry to publicly support the Republican candidate. Palmer Luckey of Oculus was also recently tagged as a Trump supporter, but he denied the allegations, saying that he is actually a Libertarian.
In any case, it would seem that Thiel has absolutely no qualms about supporting Trump despite the many controversies that he is currently facing. An insider source told the NY Times that Thiel believes his candidate is the only hope for a country that is in desperate need of fixing.
Thiel’s position with regards to the current presidential race is in stark contrast to that of other giants in the tech industry. Amazon and Apple were once the targets of one of Trump’s tirades, which effectively put them off. Other brands, including Facebook and Microsoft, simply don’t hold the same views on immigration as the Republican candidate or indeed the entire conservative party.
What the Huffington Post finds particularly interesting with regards to Thiel’s donation to the Trump campaign is the timing. With the effects of the recently released tape of Trump’s casual approach to sexual harassment still blazing hot, other GOP supporters could not be running away from the candidate fast enough.
Yet, based on Thiel’s views on women’s right to vote, this development would not be too surprising. He did once write that women's ability to vote led to an increase in welfare dependency and a supposed skewed system that favors females more.
