Reports about the iPhone 14 series that appeared in the wild over a year ago claimed that Apple will introduce a second regular model with a 6.7-inch display. It has been widely referred to as “iPhone 14 Max” by various sources, but it appears that Apple will use a different name.

Twitter user Tommy Boi shared an image of what appears to be phone case packaging for one of the upcoming iPhones this year. The case’s design and its MagSafe compatibility, as seen in the leaked packaging, are not surprising. But the cover case is, interestingly, labeled for “iPhone 14 Plus.”

The same iPhone 14 Plus name also appears in several phone cases listed on ESR Gear’s global online shop. Casetify, another popular phone case maker, also refers to the device as iPhone 14 Plus on its website. While these companies likely have

This would not be the first time that a phone case maker reveals an upcoming device’s name. But considering ESR Gear and Casetify are, technically, third-party companies it is best to take the iPhone 14 Plus branding with a grain of salt.

Naming the regular 6.7-inch model would mark Apple’s return to a familiar naming scheme. Before 2017, Apple released two new iPhones every year and used the “Plus” brand between 2014 and 2017. During this period, though, the biggest differences between the two new iPhones are their screen sizes and the Plus model having a dual-camera setup.

As mentioned, Apple is expected to unveil two regular iPhone 14 models this fall with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. But most of their technical specifications and features are expected to be the same. It would then make sense for Apple to revive the “Plus” name and reserve the “Max” brand for the iPhone 14 Pro models.

The iPhone 14 series will be unveiled next week at Apple’s “Far out” event on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The tech giant is also rumored to launch three new Apple Watches, possibly including a new high-end model with a rugged design for extreme sports.
