Alexa Scarlata is currently enrolled in the PhD (Arts) program at the University of Melbourne, as a full-time probationary candidate in the School of Culture and Communications. With a background in both law and media and communications, her academic interest lies in the Television Studies field, particularly with how the Australian television industry is dealing with the challenges and opportunities introduced by the network society in recent years. Her thesis examines the impact of recently launched streaming services on the local broadcast and subscription ecology, focusing specifically on how online video distribution will effect the local television production industry.
