Chris Hartley

Research Fellow (Housing and Homelessness) at the Centre for Social Impact, UNSW
Chris Hartley is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Impact at the University of New South Wales. Chris has nearly a decade of experience in the homelessness sector working as both a Senior Policy Officer with Homelessness NSW and Policy Officer/Solicitor with the Homeless Persons’ Legal Service. In these roles, Chris has successfully led campaigns to achieve major Federal, State and local government reform in the area of housing and homelessness policy.

Chris is an expert in developing creative and empowering mechanisms to enable people experiencing homelessness to participate in research and advocacy, including the establishment of Street Care (the first advisory group in NSW consisting entirely of people with a lived experience of homelessness).

As a researcher, Chris is skilled in both qualitative and quantitative methods and has completed research into women on temporary visas experiencing homelessness, the impact of the social housing negative classification system on people experiencing homelessness and the criminalisation of public spaces.
