AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 26, 2016 -- Xplore Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:XPLR) today announced a $1.1 million follow-on order for customized XC6 M2 tablet computers. This order is the latest in a multi-year, multi-million-dollar mobility project begun with the United States military in 2012. With this most recent order, Xplore’s total revenue for this project stands at more than $10 million to date.
Since 2012, the customer has purchased more than 3,000 customized Xplore XC6 Ultra-Rugged Tablet PCs. The XC6 M2 tablets are then deployed as the basis of the customer’s third-party OEM solution, which the U.S. military utilizes for data collection in the field.
Mark Holleran, president and COO of Xplore noted: “Xplore uniquely understands the military’s need for data and communications connectivity no matter how intense the operation or how harsh the environmental conditions. That’s why, for the last 20 years, Xplore has been working in close collaboration with technology leaders to engineer genuinely rugged tablet platforms that can simultaneously serve new markets and support long-time marquee customers, especially as Xplore’s third-party OEM business matures. As evidenced by Xplore’s central role in this and similar ongoing projects, the defense sector maintains a high degree of confidence in our ability to quickly and continuously refine the XC6 platform’s performance capabilities in accordance with their evolving mobility standards – whether delivered directly or through custom third-party OEM offerings.”
The Intel®-powered XC6 is the fifth generation of Xplore’s MIL-STD-810G, IP67, C1D2/ATEX certified ultra-rugged tablet platform. Though completely mobile, this highly adaptive, fully-functioning Windows® computer is field-proven to provide real-time data and communications support for mission-critical training missions and sensitive in-theater operations alike.
The XC6 has one of the lowest – if not the lowest – failure rates in the industry at <1%. It is completely waterproof and dustproof, as well resistant to vibrations, shocks, extreme temperatures, humidity, salt fog, and fluid contaminants such as diesel fuel and oil. It also boasts an industry-high 7’ drop rating and comes standard with government-mandated security features such as a built-in SmartCard/CAC reader, fingerprint scanner, TPM 1.2, encryption and other multi-factor authentication tools. 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and I/O communications technologies keep users connected to critical mission data and colleagues for real time briefings, while hot swappable batteries and tool-less repair kits eliminate the risk of device downtime in the field. The availability of specialized XC6 features such as Night Vision (NVIS) dimming capabilities and ruggedized in-vehicle mounting systems also provide continuity of mission-related tasks day and night, no matter troops are located.
“The XC6 has clearly become the device of choice for military field applications over the past several years,” said Holleran. “We’re honored that customers such as this one are able to extend the XC6’s value to the military in new ways. In fact, we’re seeing a rise in the number of customers who want to buy, market and re-package Xplore rugged tablets as part of their custom OEM solutions. As this project has proven, supporting a third-party OEM model could lead to very lucrative sales opportunities for Xplore, especially in the military sector.”
This sale will be fulfilled from existing inventory units reflected on Xplore’s most recent balance sheet date. As such, this transaction will have a positive impact on operating cash flows as receivables are collected.
